Prepare to Dye | ![]() | I used Procion MX fiber reactive dyes to try some tie-dye techniques on the 14 ct aida I had. The yellow I tried to swirl the fabric, the green I scrunched/shibori tied, and the blue I just handpainted. Also some handpainted cotton yarn for the rest of the dye I had mixed! |
International Style | Traveled the world and discovered: | Filanthrope Broderies, I searched punto de cruz on instagram in the hopes of finding some Latinx designers, but instead I found a French one lol. Their designs have a lot of color blending, little backstitch, and a nice detail of watercolor-esque backgrounds. |
Artist Studies: Ink Circles | ![]() | Ink Circles Freebies I did the lobster bouquet freebie, and while stitching the mirroring was helpful, but I wish I had started in the middle for more of a foundation to avoid mistakes with stitch placememt. There's a cross in the middle that they seem to have reflected the pattern across |
Blackwork Research | Researched Blackwork and discovered: | Blackwork Filler Collection I had never looked into blackwork prior to this quest, so the fact that it is made from a double running stitch and not a backstitch was news to me. For some reason that makes it seem more accessible to me. Before it seemed way too complicated for a beginner stitcher like me. Also, the pieces of clothing the technique was used on makes me want to try to incorporate it into knitting or weaving. I found a website with filler stitch pdfs (thankfully it seems the author herself made them available on this website, but I'm still wary of theft now). I think they'd be fun in a sampler like the one Crowbeak posted in quest-chat |
Bewitching Blackwork | ![]() | As September ends this week, and I doubt I'll have the energy or the desire to finish this in time, I'm going to turn in my progress thus far. An interesting technique, but I don't really enjoy doing blackwork. I'll finish this someday, but not this month. Pattern |
Petite Patterns | Found a small pattern to stitch: | Bees. I'm stitching the triptych for my blackwork research, but I enjoy stitching the little bees and want to make a few maybe as patches or just stitch directly onto things using waste canvas. |
Speedy Stitching | ![]() | 86 stitches done in 39m 13s putting me at 2.2 sttiches a minute or 132 an hour. Pattern |
Specialty Study | Found a tutorial: | The lazy daisy stitch looks least intimidating and time consuming to me lol so I'm going to go with that one |
Specialty Practice | ![]() | Not sure how well this fits with the quest, but I did try a satin stitch to repair a hole in my tights. Maybe next time I'll try it on an embroidery project |
Needle Minder Mania | ![]() | I don't actually have any needleminders. I usually store my needle sticking out of the last project I was working on or else stuck to the inside of my thread box which is magnetic (first picture). I did make my first biscornu a few months ago, though it is used mostly for sewing pins and not needles. |
Artist Studies - Dragon Dreams | ![]() | I started on the fire elemental freebie chart, but I just wasn't enjoying stitching on it. Not sure if I'll ever finish it, but I do like the acts of kindness included in the series |
Stitch Spot - Away From Home | ![]() | I don't really leave the house much since covid started, so for this quest I tried stitching in my mother's room instead of the living room! |
