Artist Studies: Durene JonesCharlieRetro Studies DureneJones.jpgStitched 2 over 1, 16 ct aida. Pattern

Instead of blocks of colour, lots of 'confetti' colours are used (there are 8 colours in the cat alone) to build up a lovely base for the piece but on it's own the details are lost – that's where the backstitching comes in and what a difference it makes!

Love how the artist uses the backstitch, especially on the cat, in a rough way which creates texture and an impression of fur, rather than just following the outline of the cross stitches. It makes the piece 'pop' from the fabric and really brings it to life – I put two photos together to really show the difference it makes.
Stitch SpotCharlieRetro StitchSpot.jpgMost of my stitching i do at the PC now, i spend far too much time at this spot - oh well! Just had a clean up a couple of days ago so it looks fairly tidy now, this will not be the case for long!
Topsy TurvyCharlieRetro TopsyTurvy.jpgBy pure co-incidence it's a pattern from Sirithre for this quest too. So, ages ago we were talking about skyrim patterns and one us joked about doing the Giant's Toe and I was like if you do this, i'm definitely stitching in, finally got round to it! I start my stitches / so reversed that and it did take a bit longer and made me think more but it wasn't as bad as I thought actually, but it did feel weird and i'll be sticking to my normal way! Stash SystemDiscovered organization inspiration:Fabric Organization by Sirithre I don't currently have much fabric, but in my fantasy future where I have hundreds of pretty colours I want to be able to see them and display them and move them around easily and as soon as Sirithre posted this blog a few weeks back, I thought yes! that's so cool, immediately thought of that when this quest came up.
Unconventional CanvasCharlieRetro UnconventionalCanvas.jpgHad no clue what to do then found this in the back of a kitchen cupboard, some sort of filter/ strainer thing, no idea, but must have kept hold of it cos maybe 'it will come in useful'! It's a messy Space Invader! It was weird to stitch but actually quite fun, a bit like giant plastic canvas and i'd maybe re-do properly with a better design sometime.
Scissor SoireeCharlieRetro ScissorSoiree.jpgYep this is it, the one and only, my old faithful friend! Been with me a long time now, started off metallic purple which has pretty much all come off, just nude sparkly silver now!
