|Color Theory||Magic and witchcraft ispired palette. DMC: 3685, 154, 208, 898, 648, 317, 310, 699|
|Design: Inspired by Color||Triskeles design; inspired by Purenightshade's color palette|
|Unique Techniques||Discovered a Tutorial for:||How to Make a Bookmark|
|Artist Studies: Durene Jones||Stitched 2over1 on 16ct white aida. Pattern I like giving pieces as gifts; I don’t like stitching something if I can’t do anything with it afterward. I picked this pattern because my sister recently had a baby and Mother’s Day is coming up, so I thought I’d give it to her. I learned that the pixel colors don’t have to be exact because the baskstitching can create the shape for you.|
|Stitch Spot||My messy bedroom. I just sit on my bed and stitch for as long as I want. Sometimes I’ll set up my iPad or laptop to watch something in the interim as well.|
|Topsy Turvy||I usually stitch / so learning to stitch \ was pretty tough. I was so distracted in fact by counting it I even accidentally swapped where the purple and gray threads should be. But I didn’t want to bother frogging the whole thing to fix it. It was especially difficult in the lettering as there were only a few solid X’s, so I couldn’t slip into any kind of rhythm. It came in a kit I bought from comic con and it’s stitched 2over1 (including the backstitch) on 14ct Aida. Pattern|
|Stash System||Discovered organization inspiration:||Floss Jars This isn’t the best way to store stuff and certainly not the most space-efficient way, but I love the witchy aesthetic of the little corked bottles! The system was invented by Rosanne Kermes along with other storage ways highlighted in the link.|
|Revisit a UFO||I haven’t touched this one in quite a few years so it felt nice to finally break it out again. I got almost the whole page done! Pattern|
|Take Inventory||Took inventory of their stash:||Bobbin Boxes I FINALLY bobbined each of my floss colors. I intentionally didn’t bobbin the duplicates. I don’t like feeling like I’m wasting the bobbins on doubles.
I thought about making a notebook or spreadsheet, but I know myself and I know I would only feel pressured to keep updating it and then I wouldn’t. Then I’d feel bad about not updating it.I’ve always worked better hands on and visually, so my organizing and inventory reflects that.
|Unconventional Canvas||I definitely bit off more than I could chew with this one, but I managed to complete it!
I decided to use a piece of cardboard (a pop tart box to be exact) and literally NAIL HOLES into it. Each hole was 3/32 of an inch apart. It was a ridiculous undertaking.
I made the pattern myself with an alphabet off Pinterest. I don’t have the link unfortunately.The background is 2 over 1, the words are 3 over 1, and the backstitch is 1 over 1.
|Scissor Soiree||While I’ve been living in Idaho for the pandemic, I only have one pair of scissors. So these have been my babies for the last three months.|
|Prepare to Dye||I -wanted- to try ice dyeing but believe it or not, tie dye is super popular as a quarantine activity. I ended up using Navy liquid dye in a crumple tie dye technique and once it was dry, I went over the lighter areas with purple fabric ink. I also used glow in the dark ink but it doesn’t show up very well.|
|International Style||Traveled the world and discovered:||Instagram, Etsy I kind of did this last minute but I was intrigued by the design of the cats eyes. They look very unique. The designers name is Ana and she is in South Korea.|
|Artist Studies: Ink Circles||I wanted to pick a pattern I could potentially use again so I picked this Celtic alphabet!
The study was more on the geometry tho. I really enjoyed the little symbol down below, but it was impossible to use my normal technique of one color at a time because I needed the other colors to give me a reference point. No problem tho, it turned out fine!Stitches 2 over 1 on 18ct aida.
|Blackwork Research||Researched Blackwork and discovered:||I procrastinated so it’s a day late and not good lol. But I did find this pdf of lots of black work patterns! Ensamplario Atlantio - Blackwork Filling Collection|
|Bewitching Blackwork||This took a long time. I also found out that when I’m only using one thread as opposed to two, the thread knots SO MUCH MORE OFTEN! Quite the learning experience! But I’m very happy with the outcome! Pattern|
|Petite Patterns||Found a small pattern to stitch:||I'm ALSO using the Stardew Valley Cross Stitch Book, although that Undertale book looks wicked cool. But there is a pumkin and/or jack o' lantern pattern in this that would PERFECT for an october quest!|
|Speedy Stitching||Since it was October I went with pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns. I think if I did the jack o lantern again in the future, I would use lighter colors than the pattern said because the details are hard to make out.
Casually stitching, the pumpkin took 1:50:41 and the jack-o-lantern took 1:59:05. So roughly two hours each.When I focused on stitching, they each took 1hour17minutes. So focusing knocks off about 1/4 of my time, at least for these small guys. I kinda decided that isn’t much of a dent and I’ll likely continue to casually stitch going forward.
|Specialty Practice||I couldn’t decide, so I googled a bunch of them and made myself a little sampler. No pattern.|
|Design: Seasons Stitching||I thought this one appropriate for the times|
|Needle Minder Mania||I only have two, one that I made out of my favorite (but broken) keychain and one that I made out of a pin I got in Hawaii and didn’t have a use for. All these other pins I plan to make needleminders of in the future.|
